"Whom Have I Offended?"

So here we have a black President at a media function, a black tie affair called the White House Press Dinner, with hundreds of well heeled, well oiled power couples and power brokers and a few posers thrown in for good measure, and a black guy, Larry Wilmore, who is supposedly a comedian, takes the stage and calls the President a “niggah.”
I can hear it all now. I used the whole word, not just the “N” word. And I ask why not? Is it because it offends black people? Sorry – that dog don't hunt here. You can't have it both ways. “Nigger” is offensive only when a white man says it, not when a black man says it, is that it? The term can't be offensive to a white man because it doesn't apply? Is that it? One cannot be offended if a term has never been applied to oneself?
“Nigger, Negro, nigra. nigga” There – I used all the pejorative, offensive laden words.
I don't like using them. I have never liked using them. And I don't go around using the words. But I know the words and many, many more. I don't go around looking for enemies, but either we have free speech or we don't.
Want to know a couple of words that really offend me? “Racist.” That's one. Here's another one. “Sexist.” Want more? “Nazi,” “Agist,” “faggot,” “ricer,” “honky,” “queer,” “Injuns” “dummy,” “commie,” “slant eye,” “kike,” “greaser,” “mick,” “lesbo,” “idiot,” “dago,” “wop,” “red skin,” “fish head,” “splib” “dyke,” “cracker,” “longhaired son-of a bitch,” “chink,” “PR's” “cocksucker” “ho,” “Sambo,” “whitey,” “cunt,” “Nancy boy,” “pig,” “Jap,” “wetback.”
Need more? Because there are more. Some you may not know. Some you may have forgotten. It doesn't really matter because the fact is, I can pick and choose almost any word to offend me.
"N—er is what white people use to to denigrate, demean, and dehumanize black people," Wilmore said, referencing how Morgan referred to his remark. "N—ga is a term of endearment some black people use between each other to take back that power."
Really, Mr. Wilmore? Is that how you want to play the game? How about Sambo? I have heard white folks use the term as an expression of endearment for black folk. How about “darkies”? That too was a kind of white term of endearment for black people. How about “Liza and Rastus?” or "Amos n Andy?” And we must make sure to include “Da Kingfish.” White folks loved Amos n Andy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and if that is true, why Amos n Andy and Da Kingfish were truly well loved. I heard many white folk do imitations of Amos n Andy, and not just some joke to mock their different manner of speech. No, sir. They expressed some clear insight in to the nature of the world and how we get on in it.
“Ya see dere, Andy, some time you da bird and sometime you da statue.”
“What's dat spose ta mean, Fish?”
“Let me 'splain it toos ya so's ya don't never have no question 'bout it nor neva eva ax me again. See, sometime you da shitter, and some time you da shittee. Ya understan now, Andrew?”

You understand Mr. Wilmore, how it is that your argument allows others to use the same argument to excuse their lack of sensitivity. You cannot claim a word for your personal use and say it is not offensive to anyone else because you and your crew have used it as a term of endearment. PC means politically correct for everyone, not just some. There were half a million people watching Mr. Wilmore - sons and daughters who wish to become like you. What example did you set? Not just for the African -American kids, but white, Chinese, Indian kids who want to be just like you Mr. Wilmore.
A news report that popped into my email said that “The White House defended Wilmore's use of the word, with spokesman Josh Earnest saying, "I'm confident that Mr. Wilmore used the word by design. He was seeking to be provocative.”
Really? You were trying to be provocative, Mr. Wilmore? If being provocative is the excuse for poor manners, for lack sensitivity to the moment, and the man and the office of the President, then the Klaner who refers to Mr. Obama as the “first monkey” must be forgiven. He is only trying to be provocative. And I suspect he or she will achieve the objective of said provocation.
Do you see where I'm going with this Mr. Wilmore? I don't care that you used the word “niggah.” It is the fact that you lacked the insight, the sensitivity as to where you were, and who you were addressing in public. You might very well use that terminology in private, but decorum suggests that it shouldn't be used in a public gathering. President Obama is not just the President of the niggahs of America, but of all of us chinks and honkys as well.
